Our bike ride had been a little bit like the Bear Hunt story … ‘can’t go round it, can’t go over it, can’t go under it… better go through it’ …. 

We couldn’t go through a massive manure pile on the bridleway, but managed to get around it. We couldn’t go around a very boggy field, but managed to pedal our way through it. We couldn’t open a gate so bikes had to be lifted over it, we couldn’t escape a ridiculously muddy and rocky track, so went over it. The path above (isn’t it magical) then lead us to a river – we stopped to assess the situation, seeing the track we wanted to access the forest on the other side of the water. We can’t go round it, we can’t go over it, we can’t go under it …. and actually we chose not to go through the river either! It was way too deep and strong to consider that. So we turned around and repeated the challenges in reverse! 

We can’t always see where the path leads, and sometimes it leads to an about turn! For us the about turn didn’t matter, it had been an adventure, the challenges and ‘not knowing’ were part of the fun. We’ll return another time, perhaps in the summer when hopefully there’s less water in the river.

So the 2020 that we had all planned and expected has instead given us massive obstacles. November sees businesses closing again and restrictions on our movements and interactions ….

But, we can’t go round it, can’t go over it, can’t go under it, we have to go through it!

Look at the line of trees in the photo; they are grounded, strong, patient and trusting. Together they have more resilience and shelter from the storm.  Let’s together help each other to be grounded, trusting and resilient, we don’t know where the path leads, I’m trusting it will be to a better place.
